So Energy and Groundwork

Supporting vulnerable customers in Greater Manchester

With energy prices rising, we understand that it’s never been more important to find ways to help our customers feel empowered when it comes to saving energy and reducing their bills. Not only is it vital that we do as much as we can to support customers who are concerned about paying their bills, we also believe that doing so goes hand-in-hand with tackling the climate crisis.

For that reason, we’re excited to tell you about our new partnership with Groundwork - a federation of charities focused on community action around fuel poverty and the environment.

Read on to learn more about how So Energy is getting involved with Groundwork in Greater Manchester.

What does Groundwork Greater Manchester do? Groundwork Greater Manchester is part of the Groundwork Federation Charity, which consists of 16 Trusts across the UK. The charity is working to create greener, stronger and healthier communities, and enhanced prospects for all local people.

Part of this work involves supporting people in the community with their domestic energy use, helping them to power and heat their homes in an efficient, environmentally-friendly way.

What kind of support can Groundwork provide?

Groundwork’s service is completely free of charge, and can provide a variety of kinds of support. This includes everything from offering energy debt advice, to support with applications to the Warm Homes Discount. Groundwork’s team of Green Doctors are also available for home visits, offering free installation of small energy-saving measures, such as LED energy efficient light bulbs, radiator foils and draught proofing.

Why has So Energy partnered with Groundwork?

We’ve partnered with Groundwork as part of So Energy’s commitment to supporting our more vulnerable customers, many of whom we know are worried about rising energy prices. As the first phase of the partnership we are trialling the service in Manchester, meaning that a select number of So Energy customers who live in the Greater Manchester area are now eligible to access support via Groundwork’s team, via a referral from our team.

Groundwork are doing incredible, important work in helping the most vulnerable people in society boost their income by saving energy, so that they can live more comfortably and reduce their environmental impact - and So Energy is very proud to be the first energy provider Groundwork has worked with on a project like this.

To find out more about the work that Groundwork is doing, check back later this month when we’ll be running an interview with one of the charity’s Green Doctors, Rebecca Abbott.
