So Energy has been named in the prestigious Sunday Times Best Places to Work list for 2024. As a renewable energy retailer, who supply over 350,000 households across Great Britain, we are proud to be named in the big organisation category, for businesses with between 250 and 1,999 employees. This is testament to our ESG initiatives including the Diversity and Belonging Strategy, launched in early 2023, which recognises that an inclusive environment is essential to our growth and understanding and improving our customer experience.
The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list recognises businesses who offer the best workplaces for women, the LGBTQ+ community, disabled employees, ethnic minorities, younger and older workers. As a supplier who was founded on the basis of wanting to change the industry for the better and improving the workplace for all we are proud to have achieved a high overall score, across all categories including reward and recognition, empowerment, wellbeing and job satisfaction.
Most importantly, our employees agree that our work across diversity and inclusion has created one of the best places to work in the UK. All category scores are collated from an annual employee engagement survey, developed by behavioural scientists, data analysts, psychologists, business leaders, academics and other independent parties to most accurately monitor employee engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort in the workplace.
As we strive towards a more diverse energy sector, in early 2023 we launched our Diversity and Belonging Strategy and have since expanded these efforts by calling on our partners throughout the supply chain to work together to diversify the energy sector. We recognise the importance of leading the way in the industry and believe we have a pivotal role to play in improving gender balance, and minority representation, as well as helping those with disabilities to thrive at work.
The award of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work status under the big organisation category builds on the ongoing success of So Energy. Alongside recognition of our work on diversity, we have been consistently recognised for outstanding customer service, having topped the Citizens Advice supplier rankings more than any other supplier since it started comparing the market in 2017.
CEO and Co-Founder of So Energy Simon Oscroft said:
“As a supplier who was founded on the basis of wanting to change the industry for the better, making this list is a wonderful achievement. To build a fairer energy market and enable net zero living for our customers, we must have a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the customers and communities we serve. That means bringing more diverse and balanced voices to the table and creating an environment of belonging for our whole team. And whilst we still need to do much more – both as an employer and particularly as a sector – this award shows we continuing to take steps in the right direction.”
