The price cap sets a limit on the unit rates and standing charges on our variable tariffs (currently known as So Flex and So Flex Green). It is not a cap on your total energy costs - the more you use, the more you will pay.
The price cap is set by the energy regulator – Ofgem. Ofgem currently updates the price cap every 3 months. Each time the price cap changes, we write to all of our customers on So Flex and So Flex Green to inform them of the upcoming changes.
Changes in the price cap can impact how much energy suppliers charge. If you're on our So Flex tariff or your fixed contract is ending and you choose not to renew onto a new fixed rate tariff, your energy price will change in line with wholesale energy prices. We'll always notify you before any changes. Our So Flex standard variable tariff will never exceed the Ofgem price cap.
As your supplier, it’s not our place to tell you which is the definitively right tariff to choose, but we can tell you what your options are. If there is any fixed rate tariff at any point in time, you'll see it on your online account where you can get a quote and switch to it. We can't promise that we'll have a fixed rate tariff available all the time due to the volatility of the energy market.
We will continue our normal practice of reviewing customer accounts to make sure everyone is paying the right amount. Also, specific alterations to your payments will depend on which region you live in, how you pay for your energy and your account balance. If you’re due for a review and there are any changes to your monthly payment, we will send you an email.
