ESB Proudly Support the Gaelic Athletics Association

This year our partner ESB will once again be proudly supporting the Gaelic Athletics Association as they hold the ABC - the All British Championship from 6-9 July. This event is all about inspiring young people to take up traditional Gaelic games, ranging from Gaelic football to hurling, and camogie. It’s also an amazing community event for Irish expatriates living in the UK to come together and celebrate their rich culture.

So Energy & ESB's Partnership: Volunteering at the All-British Championship

Now in its 11th year, the All British Championship will be taking place across two venues in London, with both McGovern Park and TirChonaillGaels setting the stage. As So Energy is partnered with ESB, some of our team will also be heading down to show support and lend a helping hand as the All-British Championships unfold. At So Energy we give colleagues the chance to volunteer through our So Giving Days, which means they can give up their time to help a charity or community project. It’s also going to be a time for ESB and So Energy colleagues to really connect, as they pitch in to keep the day going smoothly. Ever since our merger in 2021, we’ve been collaborating and learning from each other, finding new ways to help our colleagues connect. This event will be another step for our blossoming partnership.

At So Energy one of our core values is to be Caring, and giving colleagues the opportunity to be involved in something like this means we foster a community-orientated attitude. Sport has the ability to inspire and captivate, and offers young people an outlet to learn the importance of teamwork.

Sports Showcase and Community Engagement

The ABCs will feature a couple of sports played by schools up and down the UK. Gaelic football, often referred to as GAA football, is a combination of football, rugby, and basketball and is an intrinsic part of Irish culture. Hurling is played with a small ball, known as a sliotar, and a wooden stick called a hurley. And finally, camogie, which is a variant of hurling played by women. These sports have a long tradition in Ireland and celebrating that with so many involved is set to be an amazing few days.

We’re proud to be sponsoring an event like the All British Championships and helping young people discover the amazing benefits of sports.
