When you sign up to So Energy, we will complete a credit check which will appear on your credit file. Based on the results of that check, we may write to you via email and ask for a security deposit of £250 to be paid via a secure link. It's important that you make that payment as soon as possible else your registration won't be able to progress.
This article will cover common questions about this scheme.

Why does So Energy require a security deposit for some customers?
We use security deposits as part of our measured approach to manage the risk of energy debt. This in turn allows us to offer cheaper prices for the benefit of all customers.
How will I know if I need to pay a security deposit?
If you need to pay a security deposit after you sign up, we will let you know via email. The email will contain all the instructions needed to make the payment. The payment will have to be made in the 5 working days it typically takes for us to take over your supply.
What happens after I make a deposit payment?
Once the payment is confirmed, we will send a follow-up email confirming this and your registration will progress as normal. Your registration could still be interrupted for other reasons such as an objection from your current supplier, which will need to be resolved separately by getting in touch with us.
Your first payment via Direct Debit will still be due and is separate from the deposit.
What happens if I don't make a deposit payment?
Your registration will be automatically cancelled and we will confirm this with a separate email. You can register again at a later date and the same process will be restarted, allowing you to pay the deposit if needed.
How can I get my deposit back?
Your deposit will be safely stored by us and be automatically returned if you switch away to another supplier once you have settled your final bill. If your final bill is in debit, the deposit may be used to offset that amount and anything left over will be returned to you.
The deposit will not form part of your account balance and it cannot be refunded whilst you are still on supply with us.
