Core Group 1 (England, Wales and Scotland customers)

You qualify for the Warm Home Discount as part of Core Group 1 if you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you also receive Savings Credit). For more information on who is eligible and how to apply please visit the Government Website. You can contact the WHD Helpline by calling 0800 030 9322 from 14th October 2024 until 29th March 2025.


Core Group 2 (England and Wales customers only)

Core Group 2 has replaced Broader Group for customers that live in England and Wales. You qualify for the Warm Home Discount as part of Core Group 2 if you are identified by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as being eligible. For more information on who is eligible and how to apply please visit the Government's website.

Broader group (Scotland customers only, who are not part of Core Group 1) - 

Applications for 2024/25 are now open

To receive the Warm Home Discount under the Broader Group, you can apply via your online account if you receive one of the following benefits and meet one of the additional eligibility criteria listed:

1.      You (or your partner) receive Income Support and one of the following:
(a) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 or a child who normally lives with you.
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you
(c) You receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element.
(d) You receive a disabled child premium.
(e) You receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium.
(f) You receive a pensioner premium or higher pensioner premium.
(g) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(h) You are aged 65 or over.


2.      You (or your partner) receive Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (IR ESA) which includes a support component or is a member of the work-related activity group and one of the following:
(a) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you. 
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you
(c)You receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element
(d) You receive a disabled child premium.
(e) You receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium.
(f) You receive a pensioner premium or higher pensioner premium. 
(g) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(h) You are aged 65 or over.


3.      You (or your partner) receive income-based Job Seekers Allowance and one of the following:
(a) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you. 
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(c) You receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element
(d) You receive a disabled child premium
(e) You receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium.
(f) You receive a pensioner premium or higher pensioner premium.
(g) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(h) You are aged 65 or over


4.      You (or your partner) receive child tax credit by virtue of an award which is based on an annual income not exceeding £19,978  and one of the following:
(a) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you.
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(c) You receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element.
(d) You receive a disabled child premium.
(e) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(f) You are aged 65 or above.


5.      You (or your partner) receive Universal Credit, and have an earned income of between zero and £1,665 in at least one month during the period 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025 and one of the following:  
(a) You have a limited capability for work or limited capability for work, and work-related activity
(b) You are in receipt of the disabled child element
(c) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you.
(d) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(e) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(f) You are aged 65 or over


6.      You (or your partner) receive Universal Credit, are not in work or self-employed and one of the following:  
(a) You have a limited capability for work or limited capability for work, and work-related activity
(b) You are in receipt of the disabled child element
(c) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you.
(d) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(e) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(f) You are aged 65 or over


7.      You have a Gross taxable annual household Income of less than £19,978 and one of the following:
(a) You are in receipt of the disabled child element.
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you.
(c) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(d) You receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium.
(e) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(f) You are aged 65 or over.
(g) You are in employment.


8.     You (or your partner) receive the Savings Credit element of Pension Credits only and you do not receive the Guaranteed Credit element of Pension Credit and one of the following:
(a) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you.
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(c) You receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element.
(d) You receive a disabled child premium.
(e) You receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium.
(f) You receive a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium.
(g) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(h) You are aged 65 or over.


9.      You (or your partner) receive Housing Benefit in the relevant assessment period and one of the following:
(a) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 5 who normally lives with you.
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(c) You receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element.
(d) You receive a disabled child premium.
(e) You receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium.
(f) You receive a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium.
(g) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.
(h) You are aged 65 or over.


10. You (or your partner) are currently in receipt of Free School Meals support and one of the following: 
(a) You are in receipt of Child Benefit.
(b) You have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 19, born on or after 1 April 2005, who is in full time education and normally lives with you.
(c) You are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.


The number of Broader Group applications is limited each year, and so they are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
